Face acne is a common skin complaint that people of all ages face. It mostly appears in a mild form which goes away on its own; but sometimes the condition becomes severe and may even require medical intervention.

Face Acne – Different Types Commonly Seen

There are different kinds of acne which can occur on the face and they are classified depending on their severity. The most mild forms of faceacne are whiteheads and blackheads. Whiteheads occur when skin pores get completely clogged due to excessive oil secretion and swell out from the skin. Blackheads appear when pores get partially blocked and the top surface darkens. Another form of acne is papules and pustules; papules give the appearance of swollen, red bumps whereas in pustules the red bumps have a white or yellowish center. Papules and pustules should not be touched or squeezed as it can aggravate the condition. More severe form of face acne is nodules and cysts, which are big, hard, and painful lumps on the skin that commonly lead to scarring. They commonly require medical treatment to get cured.

Acne Causes – Factors Affecting Acne

There are many factors that can lead to development of acne. One of the primary acne causes is hormonal imbalance. Almost 8 out of 10 teenagers have acne as a lot of hormonal changes take place in the body at the time of puberty. Similarly many women face the compliant of acne during their pregnancy. Another important acne causes includes heredity. People, whose parents who have had acne either as teenagers or adults are prone to having acne as well. Some people find that they get acne if they have a particular type of food like chocolate or coffee or if they are taking certain medicines or using some cosmetics that do not suit them.

Remedy for Acne – Getting Clear Skin

The best remedy for acne is prevention. People prone to acne should wash their face at least twice a day to keep it clean and dry. A gentle, antibacterial soap should be used and face should be dried by patting instead of scrubbing as scrubbing can worsen acne. Only oil-free moisturizers and sunscreens should be used. Gels and hairsprays should be applied in a manner that it doesn’t come on the face and clog the pores. Eating healthy food like whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and drinking lots of water helps in preventing acne. Foods like sugar, white flour, and fried foods should be avoided as in some people it triggers acne.
