It all began in Ottawa in 1945 when 100,000 tulips were sent to Canada by the Dutch Royal Family as a show of gratitude for sheltering Princess Juliana in the country during Hitler’s occupation of Holland. Simce then the practice of planting Tulips every year has continued. During the Ottawa tulip festival which commence in May various colorful varieties of one million tulips are planted all through the city to commemorate the occasion. Commissioner’s Park located on the banks of Dow’s Lake is the main venue of the festival but flowers are planted all through the areas along Rideau Canal. During the Ottawa tulip festival there music concerts, dance performances and international cuisines are prepared at venues.

Ottawa has plenty of well known museums.
