It all began in Ottawa in 1945 when 100,000 tulips were sent to Canada by the Dutch Royal Family as a show of gratitude for sheltering Princess Juliana in the country during Hitler’s occupation of Holland. Commissioner’s Park located on the banks of Dow’s Lake is the main venue of the festival but flowers are planted all through the areas along Rideau Canal.
