Dubbed the entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood, California, attracts millions of tourists every year. Significant artifacts and memorabilia about the movie industry are found in this Los Angeles district, as well as famous landmarks such as the Kodak Theater, where the annual Academy Awards ceremonies are held.
Hollywood Attractions – Major Tourist Destinations
Grauman’s Chinese Theater, which opened with the premier of The King of Kings in 1927, is surrounded by almost 200 footprints, handprints and autographs of Hollywood celebrities. Located on Hollywood Boulevard, the front of this theater has seen millions of tourists measuring their hands and feet on the cemented imprints of film and television personalities. This is one of the Hollywood attractions on the Hollywood Walk of Fame running from Hollywood Boulevard to Vine Street. This is where the “stars of the stars” are immortalized on the ground. The Hollywood Bowl, a prominent landmark, is the United States’ biggest natural amphitheater. The 18,000-seater theater has hosted some of the largest entertainment events in Hollywood. A lot of Hollywood attractions involve film and television studio tours, some allowing visitors to watch tapings.
Hollywood Wax Museum – Top Displays
The Hollywood Wax Museum is said to be the only such institution focusing solely on celebrities. Inaugurated in 1965, the museum has 180 wax figures and a Chamber of Horrors that showcases famous movie monsters and torture scenes. Classic stars’ images displayed at the Hollywood Wax Museum are Judy Garland, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe. Some of today’s hottest film actors such as Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Hugh Jackman, Samuel Jackson and Halle Berry have life-size likenesses at the institution. Scenes from Forrest Gump, Titanic, Men in Black, Spider-Man and Peter Jackson’s King Kong are also displayed at the museum.
Studios in Hollywood – The Films
Paramount Pictures’ studio has been in Hollywood since 1912, making it the oldest film studio in the United States. It is open for daily tours, allowing tourists to visit the “New York Street” backlot set, a replica of several facades in New York City, including Washington Square, Harlem and the Financial District. Universal Studios Hollywood, although widely known as a theme park, is still counted among the film and television studios in Hollywood. The largest studio in the world, Universal’s lot was home to production sets of the 1931 version of Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi, and Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.
