With not many mountainous ski areas to boast of, Michigan still has many exciting ski resorts, offering the best marked ski trails, and some being rates as the best skiing areas in the US.

Michigan Ski Resorts – Skiier Friendly Areas

Michigan ski resorts are classified into the southern and the northern regions of the lower peninsula, and upper peninsula resorts. The areas do not have large hilly areas. The resorts offer well marked ski runs, even though they are comparatively smaller. The accommodation ranges from base lodges to big condos. There are great terrain parks, and most of the trails are great for ski experts. Not all resorts offer chairlifts. Lower Michigan Ski Resorts – Well Marked Trails

The lower Michigan ski resorts are equipped with well groomed ski pistes as well as snowboarding facilities. The resorts operate only with rope tows, and do not have chairlifts. Even though they lack in the large scale thrills and excitements offered by the larger resorts, the lower Michigan resorts are more friendly. Some of the famous lower Michigan ski resorts are Crystal Mountain ski resort, Caberfae Peaks ski resort, and Mulligan’s Hollow ski area. Mulligan’s Hollow ski area is located in Grand Haven, with ten acres of terrain, base elevation of 570 feet, and a summit elevation of 700 feet. Caberfae Peaks resort is in the northwest region Cadillac, with a base elevation of 1060 feet, and a summit elevation of 1545 feet, and a snow rate of 150 inches per year. The resort has everything to entertain the ski rookies and the experts. Crystal Mountain in the northwest region, has a base elevation of 750 feet, and a summit elevation of 1132 feet. The resort has 65 acres of ski terrain and receives an average of 125 inches snow.

Boyne Mountain – the Best Skiing Area in US

Located at the crest of the Michigan peninsula, Boyne Mountain is also rated by the SKI magazine as number one skiing area in the US. With 52 ski pistes, and the longest more than 5000 feet, Boyne Mountain ski resort has America’s first six seater chairlift, four quads, three doubles, three triples, and two rope tow. The resort also features 35 kms of well groomed cross country trails with 5 kms of lighted routes, and a snowboard half-pipe terrain park. The resort also provides training for the ski rookies and ski equipments are available on rent. The ski shop provides the amenities required for skiing on rent, and the lodge provides a cafeteria and day care, restaurant, two cocktail lounges with entertainment facilities, an outdoor pool with heating facilities, hot tub, ice rink, sauna, gym, beauty shop and more. The lodging can accommodate up to 600 guests.
